New Developments
We have developed a new
bulker roof hatch panel which is the same thickness as a normal roof panel but does not
allow water to pool near the hatch on what has been traditionally a flat unstiffened area.
The panel is stiffer than a normal roof panel and so retains its camber even with someone
standing next to the open hatch. A patent has been granted in respect of this
development.
Transport Solution
Davis contracted to build and deliver to site in Ireland 146 rail wagons and spares
including 108 bogies. There were no power or lifting facilities at the delivery site. It
was not possible to obtain a sensible quote for transport and off loading, so Davis and
Abel worked together to produce a cost saving solution. A low loader trailer was obtained
and modified to allow the lower wagons bogies to be recessed into the deck. In order to
lower the bottom wagons front bogie into the recess a modified air door type arrangement
was fitted. A light weight quickly assembled ramp was produced to allow wagons to be
winched on and off the lower deck. To raise the wagons to the upper deck a seven meter
self locking lifting deck (which does not use chains, ropes or direct hydraulic drive) was
incorporated. The winch, air door and lifting deck are all powered from the vehicle.
Loading and unloading is a one man operation each taking about 45 minutes. The area of the
trailer under the front rail wagon is used to transport the spares. |
