A rail solution to transport biomass from port to power station was needed. W H Davis developed such a solution for customer VTG UK and operator GBRf. Biomass demands complete protection from water ingress, therefore bespoke roof doors were retro-fitted to existing bogie coal hoppers together with total wagon automation at both the loading and discharge points.
In a further development, our designers have already started to examine possibilities for second generation biomass wagons with greater cubic capacity to improve payload.
